A complete high school math and reading program for less than you would pay a tutor for a few hours work.

Designed to promote learning through interactive, real-world problem-solving activities, PLATO software uses visually stimulating, photo-realistic environments to draw students in and engage them in active learning.

PLATO educational titles are the programs of choice for thousands of secondary schools nationwide.

With almost 40 years of experience, PLATO learning has been proven effective in fine-tuning skills and increasing tests scores. The PLATO programs outlined in this website are designed to meet specific state, local and national education standards, including SAT, ACT, GED and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards.

PLATO programs of study include a two-step educational strategy:

1. Master the fundamentals, including
tutorials, practice lessons/drills and mastery tests.

2. Apply the fundamentals to real-world
situations, a feature often missing in other programs of study.

Are you baffled by your child’s high school assignments? Feel unable to lend the necessary help your child needs? Because PLATO Reading and Mathematics courseware meets the requirements of your children’s school curriculum, you can provide the specific help they need, where they need it – without making it difficult for either of you!

Language Arts

Many students are being confronted with unacceptably low writing scores on NAEP assessments while poor writing skills remain an impediment for students approaching college and career.

PLATO offers a solution for students working at skill levels 7 - 12. This solution is based on the most current and comprehensive research, follows NCTE guidelines, and is aligned with national and state standards. Designed for individualized, self-paced learning, the courseware teaches writing as a process that is flexible, adaptable and nonlinear - a method that reflects a real-world writing experience.

The Writing Strategies course teaches approaches to writing for different purposes and audiences. Each module contains tutorials that feature a mentor who shows the learner how to approach a particular writing task. The Grammar and Mechanics course is geared toward correcting common grammar and mechanics errors. Each module contains a tutorial, an application, and a mastery test. The course focuses on grammar concepts and usage rather than the rote memorization of terminology.

Each activity is scaffolded to inspire student confidence (essential for high stakes assessments) and to help learners achieve larger goals by working gradually on the smaller ones. The activities are graphically rich and based on topics that engage students and hold their interest.

Math

"What do I need to learn this for?" That's a question frequently heard from students confronted with the abstract and often complex concepts of mathematics. But these same concepts in the context of real-world situations to study wild horses, an inner city archaeological dig or building a highway, so suddenly subjects come alive and take on a very real and personal relevance.

PLATO Math is much more than a comprehensive math curriculum. It can engender a lifelong appreciation of math as part of the everyday world.

Studies show that hands-on learning is essential for developing math skills. With a rich set of interactive tools and an engaging, multimedia-based design, this courseware locks in student interest and involvement while meeting NCTM standards and addressing standardized test objectives. Interactive mentors model strategies and help students develop their own problem-solving skills.

Each unit includes tutorials, practice activities, and quizzes with tools to monitor and record student progress.
